Covetics are:

A new class of single-phase compounds created over a wide range of carbon concentrations, which results in a wide range of property changes; and
A distinct class of materials outside the realm of metallurgy.

Covetics are not:

Intermetallic compounds – metallic or semi-metallic
Metal-matrix composites (MMCs)
Composites (multiphase materials)
Nanocomposites (multiphase nanomaterials)

This unique class of materials combine the advantages of nanocarbons to provide improved properties that are impossible in metals. Electrical, thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties can be increased together.

The anisotropic nature of covetics allows for vectoring of some properties within a single part.
